Trans femme people learning makeup face a stack of frictions
no other beauty consumer does:
Tutorials assume cis-femme features. Beard shadow. Brow ridge. Jaw width. None of the YouTube canon addresses them.
In-store help is unsafe or absent. Sephora’s own 2022 study: 56% of trans / NB shoppers report harassment or invalidation in beauty retail.
Product testing excludes us. Foundation undertone charts, color correctors, contour maps — built around a narrow demographic, then sold to everyone else.
